Kids yoga as a bedtime hack
I think the secret to success in just about anything is to do things with as little effort as possible.
Life is busy. When I get home from work I have about 90 minutes to get 3 kids fed, clean, do homework and be in bed for the night. And that's just the basics! Of course we should also talk with our kids about their day (fortunately at 14 months Baby Girl does very little talking), read to them, and teach them how to be good humans by doing things like cleaning up their own toys. In 90 minutes. In 90 freaking minutes.
Enter my new favorite bedtime hack: youtube yoga.
We love Comic Kids Yoga on Youtube. It's a fun story that the kids get to act out with yoga moves. It's great to calm them down before bed and also raises physical literacy. Score: 2 bonus mom points.
Also, if they are going to do yoga then they need to pick up their toys off the floor otherwise there's no room. They can do this while Baby Girl is having her bottle and bedtime. Score: 1 more bonus mom point.
And while kid yoga isn't necessarily the most challenging for an adult woman, I will almost always yoga with them. Physical activity for me plus modelling good behaviours? Check. Score: 1 bonus mom point + 1 mom self-care point.
Have you tried kid yoga?
